I recently heard Carl Honore speak on the topic of Slowness. It’s an increasingly important quality in an increasingly connected, sped-up world. Speed-dialing, speed-reading, speed-walking, speed-skating, speed-dating. All this in an effort to cram more and more into less and less time. Even those in the yoga community are victims of this.

We all know, in fact, we don’t need MORE time or MORE patience. We just need to make time to slow down for a moment. What will it take?

For those that didn’t hear, there was a recent Blackberry Blackout. Busy business people around the country began panicking: “My phone isn’t vibrating! There’s no email in my inbox!”

For some, the “digital blackout” forced them to slow down. For example, during an annual meeting in Washington, venture capitalists said the “blackout” allowed them to pay closer attention to the presentations (see the NYTimes article for more blackout stories).

This community of yoga practitioners is an inspiring group. I hope we can find time this season to slow things down without disconnecting. If you find something that works in your practice, or in your life, please share your stories with the community on our blog.
