We had lots of guests come and visit us at our table. During the festival, we had many people register to win a complimentary month. We haven’t announced the winner yet, so keep your eyes peeled for the announcement.

Yogaworks offered many classes throughout the day, including meditation, pilates, and bed yoga. Many yogis practiced in Rumsey Field, while others just relaxed in the cool breeze. We snapped a few photos during the festival. If you have any, send them our way and we’ll post them here. Also, if you are participating in any upcoming yoga events let us know - we’d love to hear your experience. See you at the Asana Championships if not before!

However, it doesn’t have to be.

It is possible to do all things we do and still be calm and centered. Imagine yourself having a breakthrough in your practice: “Wow! I’ve never done that before!” or “So THAT’S what standing bow feels like!”

How do you achieve that on a daily level? What happens when you’re struggling or get distracted in class?

How do you stay focused on your tasks when there is a constantly shifting demand for your time and attention? It’s all about keeping your flow and opening your energy channels.

In Getting Things Done, David Allen (the author) talks about achieving a “zen state” in all tasks. Imagine if everything you did made you feel like you’ve done Bikram Yoga!

The key is to get out of your head. Write it down, email it to yourself, or put it in your PDA. It doesn’t really matter what system you use, as long as it’s a system YOU trust. If you can simply focus on what you’re doing now, in the moment, you’ve already made progress.

For great tips and insights, visit the Getting Things Done Blog or listen to these podcasts.

Since then, the drum class has evolved. Through the years, it has taken on different meanings. During this drum class, we had one of our staff members, Jaki Levy, in the class for his birthday. At the end of the class, Otto mentioned his gratitude for this entire community. Otto quoted Bikram by saying that “You create your life.”

Putting together this studio and team of people has been a very intentional process. Every student in there provided a radiant and powerful energy during the class. We are deeply thankful of everyone who attended the drum class.

After I graduated college, September lost that magical back-to-school feeling. Now that I am several years removed from the back-to-school mayhem, I wonder - what is September for?

For some September means Labor Day. Others are celebrating Virgo birthdays.

For many others, September offers a total renewal. Around the world, there are practices to honor this renewal. For example, many observe Rosh Hashannah - an intense period of reflection and focus.

Yet, this renewal does not occur only on this day. There is preparation throughout the month.

While Rosh Hashannah offers a New Year, I am personally focusing on this time as the ‘HEAD’ of my Year. This gives me the space I need to focus on where my mind may be weak, and where I have erred. Instead of the usual guilt, this period of reflection will give me insight into where I can keep working to improve.

Next time you hit a block in your practice, welcome the obstacle with a breath. An obstacle is merely an opportunity for improvement. May your September bring insights into your practice of daily living.

Her passion is to help her clients find their way to health and healing, through food, new daily self-caring habits, and emotional healing. She educates about food and guides through change in an upbeat non-dogmatic way.

This summer, she put together this very interesting list to help us gain awareness about dehydration.

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%. , and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer.

For more information on Jeanette, visit Path For Life.

We are all dedicated to enhancing our minds and spirit through our body’s work. The yoga moves through this incredible community in so many ways.

During one of my yoga classes, it occured to me that it takes as much work to let go than to hold on. I was going into standing bow, one of my most challenging poses. George, the instructor at the time, said, “Just think of the end goal.” Instead of micro-managing every movement, I began to envision myself in standing bow, fully realized. It was at that point that I thought, “I don’t need to do anything. I simply need to open up, and release the tension and fear that holds me back.” As soon as I began thinking of releasing instead of pushing through, I went deeper into the posture.

Pracitcing the process of letting go can help release you from your past performance, opening up new insights, and provide a clearing for even more breakthroughs.

What will you be “letting go” of this August? Let us know right here on the blog.

It was a memorable and introspective holiday, and I look forward to what this year will bring.

I realized that sometimes, it requires looking inwards, or a clamness, to see & release the enormous energy we have inside.

This July 4th, I hope the fireworks explosions evoke not only excitement, but the peacefulness, we all share every time we step into the hot room. While there are no visual fireworks in the hot room, our spirits closely resemble the night time blossoms in the sky - at the end of the day, we are all bursting with positive energy.
